More than just nationality and epoch provide literature meaningful points of comparison, particularly in a globalizing world. With its attention to “interpretive communities,” contemporary literary scholarship often examines literature by gender, sexuality, theme, genre, aesthetic technique, etc. Versions of this course could unite literature from various countries, epochs and subject positions (e.g., gender, cultural community). Recurrent themes in contemporary international literature (written in English) afford this course various iterations such as Literature and the Environment, the Literature of Social Resistance, Nationalism and Post-Nationalism in a Global World, or Pedagogy in International Literature.
Prerequisites: ANGL 1153 and ANGL 1163.
